Chapter 12
The creature squeezed its gargantuan frame through the ground. It’s multitude of razor sharp teeth cut through the earth and rock as the creature rode the wave of pressure building behind it.
The earth trembled with fear as it rose, and so it should. The beast would rule the seas and terrify the earth.
Once, it had reigned supreme in the ocean. Never more than but a few of its kind came into existence. They left behind no fossils, and an ancestral line so faint, nobody would make the link.
The surface grew closer still. It could taste the apprehension of those that lived in the water, their fear being as cold as their blood. It seeped through the seabed, and the beast ate it up.
It was growing tired, its body weak from being out of the water, but it had more than enough strength to make it. A rest would be required after it broke through, but then, then it would begin its reign as the ultimate predator.
In the past, it had faced larger creatures than itself, but they had fallen, the way everything had fallen to its kind. In a time when the cold northern waters, and its crabs the size of Volvos, had been a plentiful food source, the creature had eaten at will. Now, it would do the same.
The earth split, and water surged around the creature. The cold water from behind was its home for so many millennia. It rushed over its body and into the warmer ocean that stood ready to accept it.
The ground shook and rumbled, radiating out for miles and miles, sending walls of water charging in all directions.
The small school of tuna could sense something. They changed their direction the moment the water around them began to change. It churned and mixed with an icy blast that slowed their bodies down. They drifted.
The creature’s mouth burst into the world, open and hungry. The powerful jaws snapped shut, swallowing the entire school whole. The fish struggled and thrashed, as the sharp-pointed secondary teeth within the creature’s mouth skewered them. The deep serrated edges cut through the tunas muscular flesh with ease. Their bodies fell apart in a wash of blood and filtered sea water.
Blood seeped through the monster’s gills as it swallowed its meal and went off in search of more.
The warm water on the surface made for easy movement and so its strength returned fast. It had already found its next target, and with its children around it, no creature in the sea could stop them.
